My client in Blackpool is looking for an experienced Band 7 Haematology Biomedical Scientist for a locum contract.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire and operates within a regional health economy catchment area that spans Lancashire and South Cumbria, supporting a population of 1.6 million. The Trust is a provider of specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology services across this region.The Trust provides a range of acute services to the 352,000 population of the Fylde coast health economy and the estimated 18 million visitors to the seaside town of Blackpool. Since April 1, 2012, the Trust also provides a wide range of community health services to the 445,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre and North Lancashire.Job Role:

Monday- Friday

37.5 h/week

Training of BMS and MLA staff in accordance with departmental SOPs

Ensuring ongoing staff competency assessment and CPD

Day-to-day running of the laboratory

Ensuring timely and accurate processing of patient samples

Maintaining and controlling analysers, including trouble shooting, reporting faults and liaising with engineers

Taking a lead on departmental audits including scheduling and completion

Quality tasks including validation, document control and IQC/EQA, gathering data for statistical analysis

Performing specialist coagulation tests such as thrombophilia assays, factor assays and DOACs

Liase with service users and other senior staff to contribute towards service improvements

The post holder will have specific responsibility for coagulation and audit

Qualifications and Experience required:

HCPC registered as a BMS

Demonstrable experience in haematology and coagulation at specialist BMS level

Experience of working in the NHS or similar major healthcare organisation

Knowledge and experience of UKAS accreditation to ISO15189

Experience of interpreting complex diagnostic laboratory results

Experience of performing specialist coagulation analyses

Experience in discipline specific staff training

Comprehensive knowledge of haematology techniques

Excellent organisation and time management skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Computer literacy, including use of laboratory software and Microsoft packages
